<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Three of my work colleagues had new babies over the summer</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's always a delight to make baby quilts for my colleagues - however the Headteacher is getting a little tired of it now - he suggested maybe he ought to commission a quilt for each member of staff as he reckoned they were all either starting or adding to their families just to get one of my quilts. It has become a bit of a tradition now</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Because of Nick's health issues over the past two to three years he's not due to head off to university until next September and his little sister will most probably go at the same time. However Nick's two best friends headed off to Swansea and Sheffield a couple of weeks ago. These twin boys have been the most incredible support to Nick going right back to his Diabetes diagnosis five years ago. We will all miss them as they have really been an extension of our family. I decided to make them both a quilt to take to university with them. Often Halls of Residence can be a bit bland so here are their quilts - it was nice to work on something grown up and masculine for a change</span></div>

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sarah's best mate Kim had a very nasty accident in the summer - she came off her racing cycle at great speed and collided with a wall - sadly the wall won but thankfully her cycle helmet saved her life. Unfortunately her pelvis, wrist and cheekbone came off a bit worse for wear and the pelvis fracture was in such a place that she will be non-weightbearing for twelve weeks relying on a wheelchair to get about. I found some Michael Miller cycle fabric that was just the ticket and designed this lap/wheelchair quilt with a fluffy fleecy back to keep her legs warm as the weather gets cooler</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was quick to do but effective - think I may well make this again with a different focus fabric and maybe a dark background</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Finally the teenage daughter of my Slimming group leader has just undergone major spinal surgery for Scoliosis and had two titanium rods fixed to her spine to straighten the curvature. She has been so brave and I thought a bright and cheery snuggle quilt might brighten up her days as she recovers.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I had the blocks in my cupboard - they'd been maturing for some considerable time with no particular project in mind - so with some fun dotty fabric they soon made up into this quilt to cheer her up</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the moment I'm off work with a horrid flu type bug so not really feeling like sitting at the sewing machine - however once I feel more like it my cousin has just had a little boy who I'm sure needs a quilt and his older 6 year old sister would probably like one too so they're the next projects to get on with</span></div>

Sarah was home for a few days last weekend</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since she graduated and started work on the other side of the country last year we get precious little time with her</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So this weekend was extra special</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She drove home on the Friday night and as he had a gig with his band on the Saturday night her boyfriend James followed her on the train on Sunday morning</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They then stayed with us until their return to Essex on the Tuesday evening</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Fortunately it is school half term holidays this week so we could all spend some lovely time together</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nigel is working on a long term contract for Honda in Swindon about 90 miles from home - work is work and although the commute is a pig the work is well paid and interesting. From next week he will lodge up there for part of the week to ease the travelling. This week the plant is closed for a scheduled shut-down so he has also been at home all week - a full house - lovely!</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On Saturday the weather was absolutely vile - solid heavy rain all day</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So what's a girl - or girls - to do.........</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">........ but quilt!</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sarah has a colleague who's expecting a baby in July</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So we worked together on a quilt for her</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I cut the confetti blocks</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDByaeeL6yNpaaubSxPEm2I31fnQsq-JNiEPZn2FgGjd_tIWiuzwtkn8Q3i8pGfkMEtPpNtERaqH7TSH_DLtpFZkgmhK-EUhBuPo44GRF-huxJaln6H48QNyShfDROOzhV03W4/s1600/Sarah+quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDByaeeL6yNpaaubSxPEm2I31fnQsq-JNiEPZn2FgGjd_tIWiuzwtkn8Q3i8pGfkMEtPpNtERaqH7TSH_DLtpFZkgmhK-EUhBuPo44GRF-huxJaln6H48QNyShfDROOzhV03W4/s1600/Sarah+quilting.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She assembled them </span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And then for the rest of her stay I stitched them together to make the quilt top, and then sandwiched, quilted and bound it</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu41YSNRu7wURFBpLs41ciood7HUkCBR_u97BG71T3GQ_DW4kpyl3cMcd7ue1LT5F7NFzHI-Fn5WFJ35a8GoIkBajxhP86utGacvpOzg-eCGtnSKQiY0U4egidJ0F6C_O_v5vC/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu41YSNRu7wURFBpLs41ciood7HUkCBR_u97BG71T3GQ_DW4kpyl3cMcd7ue1LT5F7NFzHI-Fn5WFJ35a8GoIkBajxhP86utGacvpOzg-eCGtnSKQiY0U4egidJ0F6C_O_v5vC/s1600/004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Et voila!!!!</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All done and dusted in time for her to take back with her on the Tuesday teatime</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I don't think she's necessarily a total convert - apart from anything else her life is way too busy for quilting to sneak in on it to any great extent - but it was great fun working on this project together - and she can proudly say she did some of the work when she hands it over to her friend</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As for me - I have a bonus pile of opposite blocks with white triangles and batik backgrounds - another quilt in the making methinks</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-43819679982872099872014-05-15T16:03:00.001+01:002014-05-15T16:03:29.878+01:00Thankfully................<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">............ the hand got better really quickly</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I took my daughter's professional advice, rested it and sure enough after a couple of days it was good as new</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since then I've been sewing up a storm - lots of baby quilts all finished and done</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A new project for a commission well under way - does anyone else have an old favourite design they revert back to time and time again - Jewel Box does it every time for me - I never tire of that 3D faceted effect where the 4 triangles meet - lovely in subtle greys and white - very in at the moment - hope it doesn't date too much - need to make 16 of these units for the centre of a SuperKing sized bed quilt - then am thinking of an appliqued floral border and then she want's a drift of electric blue butterflies floating across the quilt - that'll keep me busy for a while but she's in no real hurry for the finished article</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And a quick diversion courtesy of a little distraction from <a href="http://katesquilting.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/black-and-whiteand-orange-stripes.html" target="_blank">Kate</a> - never really had much of a thing for log cabin blocks but I really enjoyed making these black and white ones with bright batik centres - this will probably have a mix of a thin bright border and then a checked black and white outer border eventually</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I finished school on Friday afternoon for the two weeks and a day Easter break</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have lots of projects on the go and a lovely block of time to get on with things</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Three baby quilts to sandwich and complete among other things</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But I have been struck down</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">By a very sore hand</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A quick telephone consultation with my physiotherapist daughter </span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;">Physical tests carried out under instructions long distance over the phone</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And a diagnosis</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The pain in the base of my right thumb going down into my right wrist is apparently</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00007" target="_blank">De Quervain's Tendinosis</a></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm struggling to write, lift the kettle or use scissors </span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Driving is uncomfortable and the pain has been keeping me awake at night</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But worst of all</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I can't hand stitch or use a rotary cutter and even holding a paperback book is painful</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm taking anti-inflammatory tablets and using anti-inflammatory gel and reluctantly resting it</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sadly nothing seems to be having much effect yet but am guessing I will just have to give it time</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aaaarghhhh!!!</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Apart from the frustration of not being able to get on with current projects the boredom is driving me nuts</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'd been making such good progress and with a lovely block of school free time I was hoping to crack on some more</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm usually quite speedy with hand applique</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I use the freezer paper on top method where you iron on your shape in freezer paper, iron it onto your fabric, cut it out with a scant 1/4 inch seam allowance, tack it onto your background and then needle turn it stitching as you go - Simple! - it's the first one I was taught, it works for me and I thoroughly enjoy doing it</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But for some reason progress seems to be rather slow on this piece of work</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">No idea why but I'm just chugging along and enjoying the process</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicPntm-dISXeRdIjM-MDz4-UV6Im7Uh1NYD-w4iuCk5gtBAdRYnuUDHsBFKkbXhNYfqRwzSL6DsaqxbnihxV6kJhNhO2PrG3Sbuyp-f4rHOR8iWFByT3Fe3ZykLzwCHkvunXD1/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicPntm-dISXeRdIjM-MDz4-UV6Im7Uh1NYD-w4iuCk5gtBAdRYnuUDHsBFKkbXhNYfqRwzSL6DsaqxbnihxV6kJhNhO2PrG3Sbuyp-f4rHOR8iWFByT3Fe3ZykLzwCHkvunXD1/s1600/001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here we are - two rows completed and stitched together - three more rows of flowers with the applique hearts and leaves between them to go - then I'll complete the 1" border all the way round and possibly add a deeper yellow flower fabric border onto that - finally a pink binding to complete the job</span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #a64d79; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ok I'm away to applique some more</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-46958418374111287862014-03-23T15:48:00.000+00:002014-03-23T15:48:05.530+00:00It's been quite a wee while..............<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">............. since I did any hand applique with freezer paper</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've done plenty of handwork over the past few months, but most of it has been English Paper Piecing over hexagons with my lovely Liberty Tana Lawn</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Despite all the tops I showed you last time I still have to make the two alternate flavour quilts for a friend who is expecting in about six weeks. To complete the little boy option I could have gone back to that pussy cat sawtooth star quilt I showed the start of in the last post - indeed eventually I will do</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But with so many blue options already done to the flimsy stage I had a fancy for something a little more girly</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6rKqc7p65hBZ0VCq6j1Halpqqq-tS1BiEYtC0p_lf4FKzqZ5VdjZEwcN1HYjTWuC4mcPx4f9zOAQpM51t7uT9rCUSaolSk6dkwnBu8YFFUeo6ZM8qxFbWNOg5ClR5j_WNMsf0/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6rKqc7p65hBZ0VCq6j1Halpqqq-tS1BiEYtC0p_lf4FKzqZ5VdjZEwcN1HYjTWuC4mcPx4f9zOAQpM51t7uT9rCUSaolSk6dkwnBu8YFFUeo6ZM8qxFbWNOg5ClR5j_WNMsf0/s1600/008.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When I was hunting out yellows for the blue and yellow floating rectangle quilt I came across a big piece of floral fabric with a buttery yellow background. It has salmon and lilac flowers and mid green leaves in a pretty sprig pattern so I also dug out some Spraytime in a lilac plus a spotty green and a salmon pink with little white flowers on it </span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Looking through all the photos I've saved on my computer of quilts I like and wanted to save for further inspiration I found a design with simple flowers made with a four patch snipping one corner off each quarter</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Add a hand appliqued circle in the centre and there you have it - a simple flower</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Five of them with a lilac sashing between and you have the start of a strippy quilt</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then add a deeper sash before the next row of flowers and some more hand applique and you're ready to add the next row of flowers</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Better piece some more flowers so I can do some more</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As I said in my last post all those new babies need quilts</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So a stitching I will go.............</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The three babies of work colleagues are to be two little blue versions and one little pink</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So the first quilt I'd started was a pink version</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdPJAF4d6f22xYZQNSiFwdHDAAiK-qpPrNV2_EcYObsDKBWwTynExrotMTrtNx3sYs8gqm8f96dmVT38u-esNncLIvZvM-qrHL4eAexbUZtE_Pe6rGdTAPcd0OgHwwXTQ-YQ_K/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdPJAF4d6f22xYZQNSiFwdHDAAiK-qpPrNV2_EcYObsDKBWwTynExrotMTrtNx3sYs8gqm8f96dmVT38u-esNncLIvZvM-qrHL4eAexbUZtE_Pe6rGdTAPcd0OgHwwXTQ-YQ_K/s1600/009.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This cute owl fabric was the starting point</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI6n-1i7PGpZDoAe5NyUs6x42HV6Mqph06i_3vMcRqJAlqdpW8qs-A8OGAKfQ-waLcHgc6iMDu55M1uEVv0nFTdYmebX3SLx6YlAgm_-VEcDJH2iK9VhdedB0iHuxSI5pWeF5Q/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI6n-1i7PGpZDoAe5NyUs6x42HV6Mqph06i_3vMcRqJAlqdpW8qs-A8OGAKfQ-waLcHgc6iMDu55M1uEVv0nFTdYmebX3SLx6YlAgm_-VEcDJH2iK9VhdedB0iHuxSI5pWeF5Q/s1600/008.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And a not quite enough of the lighter pink meant a rethink and the centre blocks sport a deeper pink to match the other owls</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The second quilt is based round a blue fabric with lots of vehicles on it that I bought on the market in Den Bosch in the Netherlands last year on holiday - such a wonderful array of reasonably priced fabrics that were quite different to anything we get here in the UK</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHO39ORZbhZsFrTRHxXM4hkvCUNQhd4nd6Qk7YO2w4YC_H4wv2pPnTSBlkdBPujWWX3WV4pPQNHvwi7piXt3nH8u20pgdjd4cevtuxyvuQ-80D8OqoygqDyuf6VIOU8ifIk9Ti/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHO39ORZbhZsFrTRHxXM4hkvCUNQhd4nd6Qk7YO2w4YC_H4wv2pPnTSBlkdBPujWWX3WV4pPQNHvwi7piXt3nH8u20pgdjd4cevtuxyvuQ-80D8OqoygqDyuf6VIOU8ifIk9Ti/s1600/006.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I decided to work a bigger scaled version of the ring of friendship stars I'd tried earlier this year</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysamKSMJikBEoQvh5iCUzPIMPUIo6I1PfB4VWAaKCxGlL8Cv75QQh1mACyrjejDO5rsmznun3MEHi3qFkLvYwlg9fXS2AvipO6-IC72816XcTX7zldGPX7qUN1g4LMmCFxvTM/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysamKSMJikBEoQvh5iCUzPIMPUIo6I1PfB4VWAaKCxGlL8Cv75QQh1mACyrjejDO5rsmznun3MEHi3qFkLvYwlg9fXS2AvipO6-IC72816XcTX7zldGPX7qUN1g4LMmCFxvTM/s1600/012.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I thought I'd like to work on something simple but striking and this easy-peasy block in blues and yellows was just the ticket for the little boy of Louise's college friends</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4qAsbpSCg7pW1wXvsg1WiBoNR4IEbopIx7YUgHqHCgAr4Elwrw_qWX2O5A2GysXJkIf77J6PLUvRFqZ8p46u6vxy3T1knq5-Kfa8AVqR8M7hGDA5K0xZWH8g-zl0fqegAXutA/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4qAsbpSCg7pW1wXvsg1WiBoNR4IEbopIx7YUgHqHCgAr4Elwrw_qWX2O5A2GysXJkIf77J6PLUvRFqZ8p46u6vxy3T1knq5-Kfa8AVqR8M7hGDA5K0xZWH8g-zl0fqegAXutA/s1600/021.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lots of them together with a yellow border and there we a go </span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I turned my attention back to my last colleague and her little boy</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBexgOOSyo3IydfrU1eblvFRYIeXzMjM6Vxvfp4d6RqgniqK8YTTw68lPCSdvAMR-ebiP98QIQyb7e2SwNLa_fFrk0ccjWHKeiHRIgQtvIx8Yv2Pb64Ih0y3BkjFRetQComt3l/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBexgOOSyo3IydfrU1eblvFRYIeXzMjM6Vxvfp4d6RqgniqK8YTTw68lPCSdvAMR-ebiP98QIQyb7e2SwNLa_fFrk0ccjWHKeiHRIgQtvIx8Yv2Pb64Ih0y3BkjFRetQComt3l/s1600/025.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I found a piece of fabric with some sweet little blue and orange cats on and thought I'd work on a design to use it</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6IbKpoOelPKDUXDBIj5127mNMmxdz6NkU7S5NdF06a4vPAi2Pl1wkIUhn87EgkvaKAE-LLLVffZTmPm66Cr3buhKObjOfotbQdzGz0JhS8QAds0Wp7XiMlnCDb-zIWAeXWuF5/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6IbKpoOelPKDUXDBIj5127mNMmxdz6NkU7S5NdF06a4vPAi2Pl1wkIUhn87EgkvaKAE-LLLVffZTmPm66Cr3buhKObjOfotbQdzGz0JhS8QAds0Wp7XiMlnCDb-zIWAeXWuF5/s1600/026.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love sawtooth stars - they always make me smile</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All well and good until I spoke to the Teaching Assistant who works with this particular teacher and she happened to mention that dinosaurs was the theme for the nursery</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik9VhJL3Ece0g9Ns5nE2g9MoKxVsP5jKkHoIygwIamGDUTl4uSGbaeiemCsuGGpoy1mr-ER9K8rH16s-kxCLp5hsXdvdQnaaIS9pV0ubVuMB2AgkI6-_GmBUbjZF6uK9mpHCLo/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik9VhJL3Ece0g9Ns5nE2g9MoKxVsP5jKkHoIygwIamGDUTl4uSGbaeiemCsuGGpoy1mr-ER9K8rH16s-kxCLp5hsXdvdQnaaIS9pV0ubVuMB2AgkI6-_GmBUbjZF6uK9mpHCLo/s1600/027.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And I just happened to have another piece of fabric bought on the same market on holiday with little brightly coloured dinosaurs all over it</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/2005/06/star-struck.html">Bonnie Hunter's Star Struck pattern</a> popped into my mind for this one</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1n-XDG8m3L5bbMkcXTAWbX4-9O0zWQjMe08IGCGdR7vkDSroMY51zSalMiIEwdvaNOUAlvQuNIHY2Jz3n5QQzNPTjpcHAGyLgGHHcAMZ45KCq78aWzjBcUid3S_0JgsHuVVjr/s1600/030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1n-XDG8m3L5bbMkcXTAWbX4-9O0zWQjMe08IGCGdR7vkDSroMY51zSalMiIEwdvaNOUAlvQuNIHY2Jz3n5QQzNPTjpcHAGyLgGHHcAMZ45KCq78aWzjBcUid3S_0JgsHuVVjr/s1600/030.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here we are</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That's four of the five quilt tops all done</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The parents of the last baby have chosen not to know the gender so I shall probably make a male and a female orientated quilt and give her whichever one fits once baby arrives - who knows the cat sawtooth stars may well fit the bill for one of them</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Watch this space on that</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Some while ago I started work on a two colour design in purple and pale grey</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As the blocks went together I decided that rather than making a full smaller lap quilt with it I would use it to make a runner for the bottom of our bed as our bedroom is purple</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And last but not least I finished the top in red and white that I was making for Louise's best friend's birthday next month</span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sandwiching this will have to be my next job as her birthday is only a couple of weeks away</span><br />

<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Busy busy busy!!!!!</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-63696047127305952522014-03-01T17:58:00.001+00:002014-03-01T17:58:47.457+00:00There's going to be ....................<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">................... a real glut of little feet to patter around in the vicinity this year</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">None of them at Chez Bebbs I might add</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However I have three more colleagues who are either expecting a new addition or are married to someone who is - one little boy and two others yet to be determined - all three are due in July some time</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of Louise's primary school friends and his girlfriend are also expecting a little boy - at 17 years old they are so young and it was a complete accident but one that they are both determined to make the very best of and give their son the very best start they possibly can when he arrives in May - if anyone deserves a quilt I think they do</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And finally one of the girls at my Slimming World group is also expecting in about 9 weeks - they have decided to leave the gender a surprise until baby arrives so this will definitely need a neutral colour scheme</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So.............</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Baby Quilts galore to get busy on</span><br />

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The recipient arrived before Christmas but I have failed miserably to pass on his present until this last week</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The weather in the South West has been very peculiar</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Rain, Rain, Rain!!!</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Somerset Levels which are a low lying area of the county about five miles to the east of the town where I live have been flooded since before Christmas</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Farmers have had to evacuate their stock as their entire farms have been covered in water</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Households and in fact entire villages are under water</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The ground is so saturated that any puff of wind blows down trees</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This morning when I arrived at work I parked at the side of the road</span><br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I considered reversing another couple of yards back down the road and something stopped me</span><br />

<span style="color: #7f6000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That's the way it is with hexagons</span><br />
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Especially when they only measure one inch from point to point</span><br />

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She obviously had other plans for this festive wallhanging</span><br />

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana;">This photo taken in a different light shows you the quilting - I intended to leave the butterflies unquilted in false trapunto style and quilt a different pattern on the white border. However the white fabric is from a cotton sheet with a very tight weave and the machine just didn't like it, skipping stitches and thoroughly misbehaving so I left the border puffy and unquilted and I think it works. I will have to address this issue at some point as I've used this fabric in other projects which won't allow it to remain unquilted - any ideas for a solution anyone?</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However back to this little quilt - Mummy tells me it's a real hit and, unbeknown to me, perfectly matches the purple doll's pram that Father Christmas brought for her</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Psychic or what?</span><br />

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The red and white blocks are stitching up a dream - a simple design but effective - I need to make this 9 blocks wide by 13 blocks long </span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgx_xhKhi5h34ugTdgFdvIU76CYWcIR3bR79W3nDbHFRYZTcCpkBxjyqikQt8FvqEYg-zbWz0YueOsotIpmALwGIUuDLAUv1daEx8mhuM-9syw55PHue2XSE8FzTlKJmAy17u/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgx_xhKhi5h34ugTdgFdvIU76CYWcIR3bR79W3nDbHFRYZTcCpkBxjyqikQt8FvqEYg-zbWz0YueOsotIpmALwGIUuDLAUv1daEx8mhuM-9syw55PHue2XSE8FzTlKJmAy17u/s1600/001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are the first four rows all stitched together - I'm really enjoying simple stitching and how all those red fabrics are playing so nicely together</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The mound of fabric in front of them on our scruffy but incredibly comfortable old sofa is a result of a friend moving house shortly so de-cluttering before they go - 100% cotton bedding all cut into useable fabric - plans already formulating for two of the plains - I can feel more of the red and white blocks but in dark green and dark blue with neutral plains</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The teal, red and white quilt I was working on a few days ago with the huge big blocks is now all stitched together and awaiting plain white borders before I sandwich it ready to quilt (picture another day) - not a lover of attaching borders but I just need to man up and get on with it</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The third start of the holiday season (you know me - I can never work on just one thing at once) will be a quilt for my gorgeous big girl Sarah - now she is settled in her new lodgings a stone's throw away from the hospital where she works she has a double bed - this circle of friendship stars with owls in the centres will be joined by another 3 or 5 (design still in formulation in my head)</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have a roll of this border fabric which was given to me in a bag of remnants a long time ago when I used to go to a quilting group before I worked Mondays - it's been sitting looking at me asking to be included in something, I think it may be fairly old Laura Ashley fabric but it's cotton and rather pretty - what do you know, the colours match the owl stars - it may end up at some sort of sashing between the star circles</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Watch this space</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the spirit of my New Year's Resolution I'm counting my blessings and looking for the bright side of things. I'm not back at work until tomorrow - it's a teacher training day at my school today and the office staff didn't have to go in</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Therefore I have a day at home with no kids (they went back to Sixth Form College this morning) so I have a day at home with my lovely man. If he weren't unemployed we wouldn't have this special time. Also his old route to work took him across the Somerset Levels - last year the road was flooded for several weeks meaning an increase in journey time at either end of the day from 20 minutes to a 45 minute commute. According to those in the know this was a once in a generation occurrence due to unusual weather conditions. Well would you believe it, the road is flooded again this year and looks like being so for the next few weeks - but as he no longer works in that direction he doesn't have to worry </span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Clouds and silver linings eh?</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Right there are some more red and white blocks calling my name - off to stitch..........</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-40549601766607896092014-01-03T20:56:00.001+00:002014-01-03T20:56:30.557+00:00To wash................<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">............ or not to wash, that is the question</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you'll excuse the play on a certain bard's words what do you all do</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I virtually never pre-wash fabric</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I like the feel and handling of fabric with the dressing in it</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and to be honest I'm </span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">a) too impatient as I want to cut into it without waiting for the washing process to be done and</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">b) too bone idle to do it</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However Louise's best friend has a birthday coming up in April and Lou asked me if I'd make her a quilt</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Apparently her bedroom is red and white</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Uh Oh!!!</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How likely is any quilt in those colours to end up various shades of pink if I don't pre-wash the red</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And of course as I'm thinking of a scrappy selection of reds that's a lot of red fabric to wash, dry and iron</span><br />
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is the first day of 2014 here at Chez Bebbs</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On the whole, for our family, 2013 has been a year to largely forget</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We have been very fortunate to see our gorgeous daughter graduate, join the world of work in a still very turbulent employment market, and settle into her new life on the other side of the country</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However the state of the job market was brought home to us very sharply when Nigel was made unemployed in September after 10 years loyal service - a change of management structure sadly seems to often result in staffing changes regardless of a person's qualities and talents - in business nowadays it all seems to be about making quick bucks and high profile changes regardless of long term disadvantages not to mention the effects on those in the firing line - he is still looking for something else - we keep hoping the right thing will come his way soon</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Throughout the year our family has said a final goodbye to too many people, some were elderly and had lived full and wonderful lives. Sadly several others were taken way too soon and never had the chance to fulfil all their potential. They will all be sadly missed. Now we anticipate the passing of another of Nigel's cousins who has at 57, out of the blue, been diagnosed with secondary terminal cancer which has spread to her brain and will surely take her in days rather than weeks - so sad</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Health issues have dogged family members, Dad's dementia continues to march ever onwards which makes life often very difficult for Mum and in turn those of us close by as we support them both. Nick has had a mixed year - enough said - family members a little further out have also been struggling this year. Now Mum will start off her 2014 with a gynae op which will hopefully go to plan but the potential for the possibility of more sinister problems can't be ruled out until all tests have been completed after the procedure - we trust the amazing medical staff and are keeping our fingers crossed for the best possible outcome whilst coping with caring for Dad as she recuperates</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nige and I have found that our love for each other is the only thing that has kept us going at times, fortunately when one has been down and struggling the other has been able to keep us all buoyant</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However when I look at the families this Christmas whose houses have been flooded due to the dreadful weather we're having or those in places like Syria who live in terror under perpetual fire I have to keep reminding myself that I and those close to me have much to be thankful for</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The gentle process of cutting pieces of fabric and stitching them back together keeps me sane and gives me relief from the troubles which seem to have dogged our family this last year</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When you're in the middle of a project it can often be frustrating to make an error and have to embark on a bit of reverse stitching</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbkAr-jX9P70SwCMto6mizuBiahov9bIt2robqBZig_94zHcnCntTCcWn5IH8HR5v-1-08OrDT3qF9SutsuqhBawMVCjs7R1Ums0HEz8yqm4aVNdJTA6Vh_9PzWPpayu1SnbO-/s1600/20140101_151842.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbkAr-jX9P70SwCMto6mizuBiahov9bIt2robqBZig_94zHcnCntTCcWn5IH8HR5v-1-08OrDT3qF9SutsuqhBawMVCjs7R1Ums0HEz8yqm4aVNdJTA6Vh_9PzWPpayu1SnbO-/s320/20140101_151842.jpg" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Obviously my attention was elsewhere when I laid out the pieces for this block</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I could have been annoyed and lost heart with the remedial work needed</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But, as luck would have it, the bobbin thread ran out half way through the seam so unpicking was less of a task than it might have been - a silver lining in that particular cloud</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So my new mantra for 2014 will be 'always look on the bright side' - from the major troubles that still hover around us right down to a faulty block - things could always be worse</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To all of you family and friends near and far lets all make the very best of 2014 and wring out as much as we possibly can from every day</span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Wishing peace, tranquillity, financial security and good health for you all and may all your cutters remain sharp and your bobbins never run out at an inconvenient moment - happy new year to you all</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-82608287434933601372013-12-31T17:34:00.002+00:002013-12-31T17:34:27.895+00:00Quilts make great Christmas presents.................<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">............. for nieces and nephews</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nigel's sister has a boy and two girls who we always buy for each Christmas</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This year with only me earning and a general belt-tightening operation in place I decided that using up what I had in my stash already to make them each a quilt would keep me busy, taking my mind off the various issues that have troubled our family this year, and make cost-neutral gifts for them</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjryXi-oeujy5QUOJf710aCVwVyQct4Emw-1dUqaWy4ZZ7oDB1SdCYt-08eWuwyyYwRW6im3kgJguR1WF6-IwQZ_ues5ZVZje3haaQUCKRGx8E67xOYjg1IdjTqTsg2NF_Mr8Xf/s1600/20131224_144138+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjryXi-oeujy5QUOJf710aCVwVyQct4Emw-1dUqaWy4ZZ7oDB1SdCYt-08eWuwyyYwRW6im3kgJguR1WF6-IwQZ_ues5ZVZje3haaQUCKRGx8E67xOYjg1IdjTqTsg2NF_Mr8Xf/s320/20131224_144138+(1).jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The boy will be 13 in May and I did wonder if tractor fabric might be a bit childish for him but his paternal granddad passed away a couple of years ago and tractors are something they enjoyed sharing so maybe it's not as 'young' as it might have originally seemed</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana;">For utility type quilts I generally revert to a large meander pattern for the quilting - quick, simple and does the job</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx-M-WH9HGlUh36zifU57S0Mx95LL8RzUn3k9WxytYAJb_5bNb_xDs1HEsCxXMQh5wLgjJRw_B4NEb8z65T5EpADZ-CAWRlpM8DTw6I31AGQ8aaQAGBlZMiI9Vrm2zu4T2Lnmu/s1600/20131224_144143+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx-M-WH9HGlUh36zifU57S0Mx95LL8RzUn3k9WxytYAJb_5bNb_xDs1HEsCxXMQh5wLgjJRw_B4NEb8z65T5EpADZ-CAWRlpM8DTw6I31AGQ8aaQAGBlZMiI9Vrm2zu4T2Lnmu/s320/20131224_144143+(1).jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana;">But I decided to work this tractor quilt in a water ripple type pattern just for a change - it was fun to do and I like the effect</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7ZRnrcRbGUMVGDPFh8lok8A7dOJnkQ1LNZaRPVlrzv4LqHhxhQXLKIL96thj3X5SpM7DfsD8o3u0MxfeqCf7OZMsTlMmCljC16NHQc2GTaUkf9iweP-kllHuTCKBicWRfPqdU/s1600/20131224_144235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7ZRnrcRbGUMVGDPFh8lok8A7dOJnkQ1LNZaRPVlrzv4LqHhxhQXLKIL96thj3X5SpM7DfsD8o3u0MxfeqCf7OZMsTlMmCljC16NHQc2GTaUkf9iweP-kllHuTCKBicWRfPqdU/s320/20131224_144235.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The older girl is 9 - the blue and lilac scrappy blocks, which were just the product of a 'use up scraps while doing some mindless stitching' session, have been set into white to give a smart and fairly sophisticated design</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_XcWWzw4gMdnIZgXHJw5HPDKw3tDvmJUGYracEfyvHBCTP_NPc2LsJUeKxqJhjCpTal7d7t8vWggnIf4X0HOa-CbPHHrLobycuEYakpCEVMXz2waR0GdtF1e7193xmk83DFQ-/s1600/20131224_144330.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_XcWWzw4gMdnIZgXHJw5HPDKw3tDvmJUGYracEfyvHBCTP_NPc2LsJUeKxqJhjCpTal7d7t8vWggnIf4X0HOa-CbPHHrLobycuEYakpCEVMXz2waR0GdtF1e7193xmk83DFQ-/s320/20131224_144330.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The younger girl is 8 so the multi-coloured triangle blocks are a fun addition to her bedroom</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Their mum told Nigel this morning that they all loved their quilts when their grandparents delivered them for us yesterday</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Everybody happy - result!</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08352283065863856112noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28124195.post-1634114753312597412013-12-28T14:13:00.000+00:002013-12-28T14:13:54.644+00:00I really love ...................<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">.............. complex quilts</span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Those made with lots of little pieces, </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Suffice to say I've spent a lovely afternoon with my mum pinning several quilt sandwiches. She has access to a large table in the communal area of the complex that my parents live in and where I can do this without having to kneel on the floor</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lovely to spend time just chatting to her while I ironed and then pinned away and her extra pair of hands made laying out the layers so much easier</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lots of machine quilting to get on with now so I can get them finished ready for Christmas</span></div>

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">since I've done any embroidery</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But when I pulled out the name of a colleague with a three year old daughter from the Secret Santa hat I thought a Christmas wallhanging with a Father Christmas on it would be just the ticket</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been off work for virtually all this week with a grotty flu type bug - I went back in on Thursday morning and only lasted til lunchtime - yeuch!!! Hopefully being off again today combined with the weekend will help me knock this on the head and be fit to go back in on Monday for the last week of term as I have a stack of work to get done before we break up for the Christmas break next Friday</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So a little gentle stitching in between napping is really all I've been fit for this week</span></div>

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The close up shot I showed you in the last post is part of a cot quilt for a colleague at work who is expecting a little boy on 16th January</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Unbeknown to me she has selected a boat/seaside theme for the nursery. How fortuitous that the fabric I chose for her quilt has little boats and all things seasidey on it. I bought the fabric from the market in Den Bosche in the Netherlands whilst on holiday this summer. It struck me that, while I have plenty of girly and neutral baby fabrics in my stash I didn't have much in the way of boyish fabrics. There was lots of choice on the stalls in this lovely Dutch market so I bought several different half meter lengths to bolster my stash. If you look at the 'non-triangle' blocks in the photo above you should just make out the little boats - so sweet - and quite different to the fabrics available here in the UK. I took the colours from this fabric - pale blue, dark blue, white, red and grey - to work the design</span></div>
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGA2FF9pM-nVB-5yAhkv9FWILYCUweNGg_S1cmNzpnPM5kCS46Cb6wgC3ahJrLLxwIvrrPCdCn45JSKe8GaM6V4BEbv9pSwpC_EIYBPf4Bn0t4lfExQ_pKeHo_Re2rCizEpXWG/s1600/Lou+Prom+and+Sarah+Graduation+July+and+Nov+13+097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGA2FF9pM-nVB-5yAhkv9FWILYCUweNGg_S1cmNzpnPM5kCS46Cb6wgC3ahJrLLxwIvrrPCdCn45JSKe8GaM6V4BEbv9pSwpC_EIYBPf4Bn0t4lfExQ_pKeHo_Re2rCizEpXWG/s320/Lou+Prom+and+Sarah+Graduation+July+and+Nov+13+097.JPG" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see from the finished article a 4" stack, cut and stitch triangle block made in the various colours and placed in a specific pattern give the final product. Reasonably quick to put together and very effective.</span></div>

<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">.................. but not all my work</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have a dear friend who also quilts - we met around 10 years ago as she was Louise's class teacher. Somehow one day Louise let slip that I quilted. She was a total beginner at that time and shyly approached me one day to ask for help when she was stuck. Our friendship grew from there and her two young boys both have one of my quilts which I gave them when they were born.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She has had several health issues and with two young children and a part time teaching job has plenty on her hands which leaves little time for quilting.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Earlier in the summer she told me about a project she'd been working on for some time. Her sister in law had asked for a quilt and had selected the fabric. Leigh had made up all the blocks and assembled them into a quilt top - the fabric choices weren't hers and she found working with someone else's choice quite a challenge at times. In sheer desperation of ever getting the project finished she tentatively asked me if I could possibly machine quilt it for her.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I happily agreed and we met up at the seaside for the afternoon half way between our homes so she could hand it over.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the end result</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfynWT64g9_9apmIZflhnECed4Gum-SbKJP18WnuG-oSywJV54FjWz9V2HF9q7FUeTaoDvzEPAgoe_h0t5UIOuDf8SAU5IgFFdzKfZEMnZPR6I97T7djFeLs3Dw_uQL4ifDxz5/s1600/Leighs+quilt+1+FS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfynWT64g9_9apmIZflhnECed4Gum-SbKJP18WnuG-oSywJV54FjWz9V2HF9q7FUeTaoDvzEPAgoe_h0t5UIOuDf8SAU5IgFFdzKfZEMnZPR6I97T7djFeLs3Dw_uQL4ifDxz5/s320/Leighs+quilt+1+FS.jpg" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to say the fabric selection wouldn't have been my choice either and it felt very odd working on someone else's project. </span></div>
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJk4Rc4ahCGO60On_MFxgjLCWhejbVXqW_FfxD94QHNpnoeP-vIhH7DPChsn_N7yM7DAvFvsFubeCZwWhTrGoepQbhaGFgpXrgBeirRUNmkorvxiLFC22e4WDrt66-efrgQZFs/s1600/Leighs+quilt+close+up+FS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJk4Rc4ahCGO60On_MFxgjLCWhejbVXqW_FfxD94QHNpnoeP-vIhH7DPChsn_N7yM7DAvFvsFubeCZwWhTrGoepQbhaGFgpXrgBeirRUNmkorvxiLFC22e4WDrt66-efrgQZFs/s320/Leighs+quilt+close+up+FS.jpg" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However complete it I did with a large all over meander in a lovely old gold coloured rayon thread which really shines. I then carried blithely on and using the only piece of spare fabric large enough for the job I went right ahead and bound it too. It was only after I'd completed the binding I did wonder if I'd been a bit presumptuous doing that part as she might have wanted to do the binding herself. But thankfully she was just jolly glad to get it back completed to be able to give it to her sister in law albeit probably a couple of years too late for the intended special birthday. Everyone happy all round.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Unlike a lot of you who quilt commercially, I don't usually quilt other people's work. Does anyone else find it difficult to work on something in fabric they either wouldn't have chosen or they're not fond of I wonder?</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Other than this I've been doing a lot of hand stitching hexagons - I know I've shown you this before but it is getting larger by the day. I think I've got it about to the width I'd like so once I've finished the right hand row down I shall square if off to match the other side and then work on getting it to the desired length.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-BdHa3BD4S7RFNYIhgsiLGXocikRsgjDzAGuB3f5fKVwDqkPMnc3ErJqKKZ6tUwcuIx4Gf1akCvNAlGyS7f4VjXwwWDP8kmpzBxaQsXgEu_5TkhH722NJJ2929X7GRU8yHYoo/s1600/Liberty+Hexagon+progress+Sept+13+FS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-BdHa3BD4S7RFNYIhgsiLGXocikRsgjDzAGuB3f5fKVwDqkPMnc3ErJqKKZ6tUwcuIx4Gf1akCvNAlGyS7f4VjXwwWDP8kmpzBxaQsXgEu_5TkhH722NJJ2929X7GRU8yHYoo/s320/Liberty+Hexagon+progress+Sept+13+FS.jpg" width="240" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've so enjoyed working on these tiny (1inch point to point) hexagons in this lovely Liberty Tana Lawn that I will be sad to complete this. It is well travelled having accompanied me on at least two holidays to the Netherlands for starters. I still have lots of the different florals left so I'm planning it's sister quilt to follow on but have bought yardage of plain lawn to act as contrast on my next project in <span style="color: black;">black</span>. Now to look out a different layout but I'm being very strong and not letting myself get side tracked by that until this one is done and finished so it will be a wee while before that black fabric comes out of the package.</span></div>

Other than stitching we've had a busy summer.......</div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My parents celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary and as Dad's condition means he probably won't realise what's happening if he lives to their 60th we decided to get some family together and take them on a trip on a horse drawn barge along a local canal. All three kids have made us very proud, even more so than usual, this summer. Nick received his AS results and gained an A in Economics and a B in Law - considering how ill he was at the start of the year these are nothing short of miraculous. We're not counting our chickens but he does seem much more stable now and the health professionals are delighted with his progress, long may it continue. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Louise received her GCSE results only this week and gained 3 As, 5 Bs a C and an E. Considering the knock on effect of everything with Nick she has coped so well and these are a real credit to her - one of the As was in Art so all that late night stitching was obviously worth it. September will see her joining her brother at the local sixth form college to study A levels in English Literature, Government and Politics, Law and Geography.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sarah completed her university course and attained a First Class Honours degree in Physiotherapy. We heard at the end of last week that, in an incredibly competitive job market she has taken up the offer of a permanent job as a Band 5 Physiotherapist at Basildon and Thurrock NHS Trust in Essex not too far from where she studied at uni. This was the first and only interview she attended.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Nigel has been on his travels again with work and spent a fortnight in the Far East visiting Tokyo and Shanghai<br />

Finally last weekend Sarah and I met up for the weekend in London where she treated me to tickets to see Top Hat at the Aldwych Theatre as a belated birthday present - the show was superb and we had such a lovely weekend together, just the two of us. Here she is at the Rainforest Café where we enjoyed Sunday lunch - all the other babies were under the age of ten and considerably younger than mine who turned 21 in July but I know we had just as much fun as the little ones<br />

<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">.................... almost time for bed now</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #45818e; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's about 11pm on a Thursday night here in Taunton, I returned home from my Choir practice about an hour ago. Nigel is away overnight for work and the two youngest have been left to fend for themselves. Unbeknown to me Louise's GCSE Art project needs to be handed in tomorrow</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">......................... And now for something completely different</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My brother is nine years younger than me and hence his two children are much younger than mine </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When they called in to see my parents over the Christmas period we had a little time to catch up with my nephew Spencer who is almost six and my niece Darcy who will be three soon</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #20124d;">Although Spencer has been the recipient of a couple of my quilts - his </span><a href="http://www.quiltingbebbs.blogspot.co.uk/2007/05/one-year-old.html"><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Christening quilt 'Spencer's Stars'</span></a><span style="color: #20124d;"> and his</span><a href="http://www.quiltingbebbs.blogspot.co.uk/2007/12/woo-hoo-its-wrap.html"><span style="color: #6aa84f;"> I-Spy quilt</span></a><span style="color: #20124d;"> - I realised I'd never got round to making Darcy one of her own</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #20124d;">She takes after me for her striking red hair but this doesn't stop her loving, and I mean LOVING, to almost exclusivity, the colour </span><span style="color: #e06666;">PINK</span><span style="color: #20124d;">. When she started pre-school last autumn her mother's biggest worry was how to persuade her to wear the lovely smart uniform which is grey and bright blue - I'm just glad I didn't have the task, I thought my three were strong-willed but she beats them all combined hands down - Mum eventually managed but we do have to have</span><span style="color: #e06666;"> PINK </span><span style="color: #20124d;">hair accessories each day just to make a point</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #20124d;">So the obvious choice for a quilt for Darcy just had to be </span><span style="color: #e06666;">PINK!!!</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was in the mood for something quick and easy - always a girl who loves instant gratification</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So big blocks were the order of the day </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I had picked up some 'Cath Kidstonesque' type fabric from IKEA when passing a little while ago - the roses are large enough to hold their own in an 8" centre square. The toning fabric I bought with it in pink with red dots was just the ticket for the outer churn dash design against a white background and with 16" blocks you only need a few to make something quickly of a decent size. I then fussy cut some roses for the cornerstones and white sashing, the same as I used in the blocks, gives them the floating impression</span></div>
