Welcome Spencer to God's wonderful world

We've been on tenter hooks since Wednesday in our house.

The birth of the baby to receive the 'natural hessian' quilt (above and still to be sandwiched and quilted) has been on the cards since mum-to-be was taken in with a serious risk of pre-eclampsia.

To cut a long story short after failed attempts to induce it was decided to perform a caesarean section this afternoon for the good of both mum and babe - not necessairily the desired mode of birth but there's alot to be said for a healthy outcome for both parties

My new baby nephew Spencer Ross arrived into this wonderful world at 3.55pm this afternoon weighing in at 7lb 2oz

Here's the closest I shall get to seeing him for a little while as they live at the other end of the country. Apologies for the standard of photo courtesy of my baby brother's mobile phone

So, despite feeling a bit sorry for myself as I've got no chance of getting up there to see him for a few weeks, I'd better get that quilt finished.

On the stitching front I've done another block of my soft and faded applique - inspiration courtesy of Jane's turkey stars

I've also now got all four of the Spring blocks for our four seasons swap so I'd better get a wiggle on and stitch my summer blocks to post out.

Off to stitch then :o)

Congratulation! I really like the natural quilt even though you don't think they are "your" colors. You have a beautiful sense of colorscheme whatever you make.

Congratulations - a healthy nephew is all that matters! Although not a traditional baby quilt, the hessian quilt is still very nice. Sometimes it is best to make something the recepient will use. I am struggling with brights at the moment, making cushions for a friend. How do you applique? Do you use freezer paper? Your work is lovely.

I think Mom will love the quilt as much as baby (if she let's him use it!!!). Spring time block are always a welcomed sight this time of the year.

Congratulations on your new nephew - babies are so wonderful and such a blessing. I hope it's not too long before you get to hold him in your arms.

Good news! I've got to say that though the colour scheme woudn't be my choice either, it really does show up the lovely piecing and it does have a nice calm, soothing feel about it - perfect for a baby.

Love his name! Congratulations, so happy for the outcome... he's gorgeous. His quilt is handsome and the colors of your spring blocks are as welcome as this precious baby. Good job!

Congratulations on your new nephew! He looks wonderful. I'm sure he and his mom will love the quilt. Star in a star (or Morning Star) is a favorite of mine in any color scheme...

I was so glad to hear that mother and baby are doing fine. It sounds like it was a difficult beginning for him and his mom. The hessian quilt will be loved, I'm sure.
