Dashing Horses - top complete..........

and now ready for the dreaded sandwiching - where is that sandwich fairy when you want her?

I've stitched on and off for most of the weekend - well during the daylight hours anyway.

And here is the result - the top for my sister's birthday quilt completed. I've christened it 'Dashing Horses' as the horses look like they're running and the block is a simplified 'churn dash'.

The 'shot-effect plains' by Rowan have been a right royal pain in the posterior - they fray when you look at them never mind cut or stitch.

However I am pleased with the end result even if I'll never, ever use this particular range of fabrics again!

The two younger ones were bored yesterday so decided that cup-cakes were the order of the day

- not sure about the colour of the icing mind you. But they did taste good and they made them with virtually no help from me - not bad for a 10 and 11 year old!

Great quilt and the name is perfect. Those cupcakes look yummy, even with blue icing.

Oh, Anne, what beautiful children. The quilt is lovely; too bad about the fabric fraying and driving you crazy!

That quilt top looks unbelievably good now it is all together!
The cupcakes might have been nice, but the makers were just super special!

Wow! That quilt came out great! I was not able to picture it until you have it all together. Nice! And your kiddos are so cute!

It looks like a good day was had by all.
Congrats on getting the horses top finished. It's hard to keep going with something you are not enjoying.

Anne I love how Dashing Horses turned out - it's absolutely beautiful! Will you do simple quilting? What are planning? Hope that sandwich fairy turns up soon!

When you said '10 and 11 year old' it made me realise how close together you had them!!!!! Look at your son's face - the very picture of concentration!!!

Wow Anne - that turned out really well and so quickly done. If that sandwich fairy turns up at yours send her up the motorway to me - I have plenty for her to do -lol !
Nice to see your two having a go in the kitchen - great !

Wow...it looks great. Your sister will be thrilled with it! Good luck finding that sandwich fairy.. she might be lurking here as I've managed to get 3 quilts basted this weekend...but I'm out of safety pins, so I'll have to start some quilting! Shall I string her up and send her your way :o)
(BTW, I've been using the Sharon Sh...what's her name...method and I still think it works great...might be worth a go)

Well, I guess it's a bit late now, but I'd say the consistent burgundy definitely works :)

I totally love that quilt. The colors are fantastic! I'd send you a sandwich fairy if I knew one , but then she'd probably be busy here. Lol.

Your Dashing Horses quilt looks great, Anne!!!
I'm no big fan of blue frosting, but I'm sure the cupcakes tasted great :o)

Your Dashing Horses is lovely -- and with awful fabric to work with you've done wonders! Love the quillows you've been working on as well! I sympathize with the Christmas gift rush -- I'm in the same state, but I've been sidetracked with knitting. I'd better get back to the sewing machine soon!

Very cute Anne, and if you find the sandwiching fairy, can you send her my way when you're finished with her?

I'm glad you are pleased with the result, because it is beautiful! And how nice that your kids can dream up their own fun and keep you (mostly) out of it, except for sharing in the tasting. Cute!

I could not believe my eyes when I saw your quilt in the flimsy stage already! My goodness you are fast! It seems we were just admiring the first two blocks! It is a lovely quilt and the colors are beautiful!

I think a sandwich fairie would likely be found working in a Sub or Hero shop. ;) At the very least, a deli... lol

And tell the kids my brothers used to make yellow cupcakes, then after they were in the little cups, add a drop of blue food coloring to them and stir it with a toothpick till it was a nasty looking moldy marbled greenish, all in the hope nobody would want them!

What a perfect name for your quilt - it will be a well loved gift.

Looks like the kids are having a great time. Don't you know that color makes the frosting taste better? *s*

Yes, the burgundy background is the best part. It's beautiful.

The cupscakes look delicious. Sugar tastes good in any color.

Well, problems aside, that is a stunning quilt! Your two look like they were having such fun and do they usually get along this well?
