A little more lilac - stitchery now

Well my 'white elephant' topper is coming along apace

I was considering putting some applique in the spaces within and between the stars until May Britt suggested some stitchery - if you follow the link just look at the beautiful navy blue and white table runner on today's post with the stitchery ivy garland all around it - fabulous!

So here we go - a start - a little faux appliqued star with a pretend button in the middle in the centre of each star. I did 5 last night and hope to complete the other three today.

I'm so pleased with them that I don't think I'll stop there - I might do some little stars in a sort of garland between the pieced stars - ideas are bubbling in the back of my mind and should come to fruition just as I finish the star centres.

I finally got round to sending 'Spencer's Stars' off to my brother and his wife this week.

He phoned last night to say they were totally blown away by it.

I had to reassure him that it was fine to use and not just put away as too precious. He was a tad sceptical when I said it would go through the washing machine but I managed to reassure him so I think they will use this one!

Thank goodness, after all that work, that I seem to have hit exactly the right spot!

That's so effective - and I can never resist lilac. I'm not surprised at your brother's reaction to Spencer's stars - it was beautiful but it is even better when your efforts are appreciated.

Hi - i love the star within the star - especially the way you have stitched the button in the middle. I remember someone giving us a wedding present not on our list that she thought we couldn't live without - an electric steamer. We used it when we moved into our first house for the few meals before our cooker arrived and then it never appeared again! Lucy

The stitcheries just go perfectly with the blocks. And it is a great idea of you to want to add some more stitchery in the rest of the background. I am curious to see more of it. I have just started some redwork myself and I find it very relaxing. Take care.

Hi Anne, I have to say the topper is becoming far more elegant that what it will cover...LOL. Poor White Elephant subject to all that clutter abuse! The stitching a perfect touch, and what fun to let yourself get carried away. You can giggle to yourself everytime you walk past and see what a clever gal you are..*VBS* Pox on the gift giver, you've topped things in the best possible way, with your needle. Hugs, Finn
