We watched President Obama's inauguration at teatime here in the UK - I made my kids sit and watch history being made.
A normally incredibly composed man stumbled over his oath showing an endearing human side to his usually polished exterior
But the most moving part for me was explaining the significance of all this to my children
As a 1960 baby I can only slightly remember the notable events of the 1960s
But I am still overawed at how far things have come in 40+ years
Long may that progress continue
A truly momentous day

I can't tell you how happy it makes me that the rest of the world is rejoicing with us! I was glued all day and night to the inaugural events, and just couldn't keep from shedding tears of joy and wonder. It really is such a hopeful thing for us all!

On Saturday night my daughter and her family were visiting us, and I found myself telling her about a time when I was a little girl in the 50s. Our family had taken a vacation trip to the South, and I clearly remember seeing FOUR restrooms and TWO water fountains, and they were all being used as designated. My daughter was incredulous. Our country has come very, very far. And there is farther still to travel.

I rallied up my girls to watch it too...it will definitely be one of those "where were you when" moments.

I heard an amusing story in the playground this morning. One of the mothers rounded up her son to watch and she told him "This man is one of the most famous men in the world" to which the child of 5 replied..."hmm, yeah but he's not as famous as God!" :o)

You can't beat that!
