These are, as the title suggests, sunflowers of a non-quilted variety - unlike the ones on 'The Brute'. They were all seeded from dropped sunflower seeds (unsurprisingly) from the bird feeders and so are actually freebies, a real delight as I've never grown sunflowers before and it's lovely to watch them moving their heads round to follow the sun each day. I will certainly be growing some intentionally next year.
I didn't do a fat lot more on the quilted variety last night as I went to get on with some after the committee meeting and the machine was playing up - chewing up the thread underneath.
So I decided to have a good sort out, clean the machine, change the needle etc but stupidly didn't switch everything off - result.......... one stitched forefinger on my left hand - OUCH!!!!! - the needle entered at the point where your forefinger and thumb touch if you pick up a sewing needle and of course as an immediate reaction I pulled my hand away so it has ripped a one centimetre strip of skin open. It's not too deep thankfully and pretty clean but is very sore indeed. Mercifully I didn't get any blood on my work - much to DH's amusement as that was what I was most concerned about when he was trying to sort me out. Fortunately I haven't had to do too much proper typing at work today as that is very painful too.
So I guess the next task will be to give the machine the proper clean I was embarking on when the incident happened and then crack on with those sunflowers again as and when the painful finger allows.
Industrial injuries eh?!?!? Dangerous business this stitching.

Ouch! It's funny that your first concern was blood on the quilt. I hope it feels better soon and you can g et back to The Brute.
Oh dear - sorry to hear about your injury and yes, my first thought would also have been about blood on my work. Love the sunflowers - the Kindergarten class at my kids school plant sunflowers every spring. When they go back to school in September there is usually a wonderful line of flowers to greet them all.
Bless your heart, sounds like you might have been to tired to be sewing. Things like that happen to me when I sew and I'm exhausted.
Rehab: Tell everyone you need 3 days 24 hours of quilting in solitude. After all, we don't want you to be emotionally scarred over this ordeal...Do you think they buy into it?!?!?!?!

I like 'screen doors' idea! I was in pain just reading what happened to you. I hope you are OK. I've heard put 'super glue' on it will help it heal, and help the throbbing stop. My mom swears by it. She puts a little antiseptic on the spot, then drys it, and cover it with super glue. I know it sounds crazy, but I've tried with with small cuts, and it seems to work.

Those sunflowers are pretty. I'm thinking that maybe I should plant some too.
Sorry about your injury. Glad it wasn't too serious. When we were children, we would stick pins in the fleshy part of our fingers on purpose - not deep enough to draw blood. then we would show people how we could stick a pin through our foreheads.
On my, you made me cringe and gasp out loud! I'm not usually squimish, but that really got to me! I hope it heals soon!

I love your sunflowers they look lovely. They are such fun to grow and give food to the birds as they dry.
It's almost too painful to read! Eeeow! It's always the reaction that gets us in worse trouble. I dropped a plate once and just reacted by grabbing the cut pieces...ouch!

Your stitching the finger makes me cringe to even think of it! And I'll surely be careful in the future to turn my machine off!

Ouch, glad I read this after hearing you were on the mend! BTW, I love that very pale pink quilt (at bottom) I saw that pattern a little while ago and thought it was the nicest girl's quilt I'd seen - feminine but not girly and suitable for all ages. I'm sure it would be equally great in blues.
